On March 6 we had a dinner at the Sanctum Soho to present cheques to both Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and Childline. The total profit raised at that time -- it is still going up bit by bit -- was over £230,000 with a cheque being presented to each Charity for £115,944. Over 60, including many wives and girlfriends, attended and l think it is fair to say a fine celebration of our combined efforts was had by all. The evening started with the premiere of the DVD of the ride which will be available (at a fee for charity of course) to all riders and anyone else who wants to pay for one. This was followed by dinner then a few presentations. Representatives of the Charities presented Rod's PA Sharon with flowers for all her hard work assisting Rod with the logistics and keeping everyone informed and in line! The biggest fund raisers were presented with certificates to commemorate their efforts. Classic Tours were thanked though sadly none were able to attend due to other Charity rides and treks. The riders presented Barry Drinkwater with a bottle of champagne -- as if he needed it -- for providing the memorable yellow (of course) T - shirts, and Candice and Andy for all their fantastic efforts in filming and photography respectively. But sadly we don't have any footage as Andy -- who conscientiously filmed all this -- lost the camera later, though he claims he was sober! For some mysterious reason a few fluffy sheep appeared from nowhere. We have no idea why. Baaaa!!
Festivities continued on the top floor terrace of the hotel until the early hours and Simeon has promised to let us know who was last to leave, that is , if they have yet!!
All in all a brilliant close to a fantastic, and most certainly worthwhile, experience.
Now for the next one, last week in January 2011.....Cuba anyone ??!!
