Thanks for your generous contribution to our Nile Bike Ride Jan 21 - 25 2010 on behalf of Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy and Childline/NSPCC. Total profits for the ride exceeded £230,000, with almost everyone paying the ride costs personally, and this weekend we are presenting cheques to each charity for £115,944 with a few more donations still in the pipeline so hopefully this total will still rise. Everyone survived fully intact (except one!), despite wear and tear to backsides and livers! We are proud that cycling legend Lance Armstrong was one of our contributors and, Lance , if you see this you are most welcome to join us next time and may even pick up a few tips!!
As promised, on the homepage a link to the gory story of the ride as told by well known music and rugby writer and renowned (in his village) cyclist Howard Johnson, along with links to splendid photographs taken by our very own Candice Farmer of Fresh2o, and some film clips by Maiden's "visual chap" and legendary TV music director Andy Matthews.
Also we must thank Helen Whittaker and Classic Tours for making the tour possible with their local expertise and experience; our Classic Team Leaders Sarah Perry and Phil Kool; Mr Osman and his worthy Egyptian team of mechanics, cooks, guides and helpers; Sarah Philp, Iron Maiden webmistress, for all her hard work putting this site together; Azimuth Post Production, London, for giving us studio time to edit the DVD and film clip on this site and, last but surely not least, the Doctor who kept us alive and very much kicking, Steve Clayton.
