Truants Charity Golf Day – 2012

The First Truants Charity Golf Day, held at Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club on Apr 27, was a resounding success. A total of £20,250 is being contributed equally between our three Charities – Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy, Childline and Teenage Cancer Trust – and everyone certainly appeared to have a very good time.

Thanks to all of you who supported us – 76 players plus an extra dozen for dinner. Against the current odds even the weather held with only a short shower early on and sun thereafter,  and the course played beautifully.

Check out the team and other (censored) photographs of the day and you can even print off your team pic if you so desire.

The Individual Winner was Chris Edwards with a fine score of 37 Stableford points, playing off 19.

Bennie’s Bandits (Vivid All Stars– Alan Bennie, Peter Drummond, Jamie Bennie & Will Brown) took the team prize with 87 points , the best 2 Stableford scores per hole counting.

Tim ‘The Milkman’ Watson won the longest drive and Nic Fox of Charlie’s Angels won the nearest pin.

The worthy “W*****s of the Day” were our very own Truants Luke and James Burdess, Luke Morley and team captain Daryl Clark – and that was not just for starting half an hour before anyone else

We would like to thank Truants Michael Hole & Rod Smallwood for all his time and effort in initiating and arranging this grand event and to Moira Stafford-Neck and Marjie Stephen at the Royal Mid Surrey GC, Duncan Good and Ian Simpson at Miles Commercial and Sharon at Phantom for all their assistance in setting this up and helping to make the day run smoothly. Also Andy Matthews from Phantom for filming and editing our Golf Day movie and Sharon for taking all the photos.

Truant Tom Baigrie deserves special acclaim and thanks for a magnificent effort as our Auctioneer raising over £15,000 with great humour and the occasional threat.

Thanks are also due to Chris Gretch and to Truants Mike Weatherley MP, Mark Allen, Robin Moore, Rod Smallwood, Jan McGinity, Michael Hole and Victor Ubogu for providing the auction prizes – all of which came completely free of cost so that every penny went to the Charities , as did funds raised by the raffle (£1,540)  whose prizes were supplied free by Truants.  Also many thanks for Adam Aaronson for kindly making and donating the glass trophies for the winning team.

As the timing seems to work out very well for everyone we intend to repeat on the last Friday in April annually so put Apr 26th 2013 in your diaries now!!
